The first general body meeting of INTACH was held on January 27, 1984, and was headed by Rajiv Gandhi. The founder Members involved in the inception of INTACH were many eminent personalities with active interest in India’s art and cultural heritage.

The working structure of INTACH consists of the Governing council and Executive committee these members are in turn elected after a five year term through an electoral process. The general body facilitates in the election process.
