‘Sambhar: An approach to Heritage Resource based development’
Sambhar, a small, historic town in the Jaipur district of Rajasthan has vast natural, architectural and cultural heritage. Named after the famous Sambhar Salt Lake, the settlement of Sambhar has been dependent on the salt industry since time immemorial for its employment and revenue generation. The location of Sambhar with its close proximity to major tourist destinations like Jaipur and Ajmer as well as the rich architectural heritage of the town and surroundings makes it a significant tourist destination. Sambhar has the potential to be developed as an important heritage tourism destination that can help in the economic revival of the settlement.
The objectives of the Seminar is
to
- Encourage local community participation for the
conservation of natural, built and cultural heritage of Sambhar.
- To raise awareness of Sambhar’s tangible and
intangible heritage and the benefits and potentials of
heritage conservation.
- To promote Sambhar as an important tourist
destination.
- To review modes of sustainable partnership between
the local community, NGO’s, Government of Rajasthan and
international organizations for heritage based growth
and development of Sambhar.
Experts on wetland
and ecological sciences would present and share their
experiences and the brainstorming exercise would be
undertaken to explore the potential ways of making 'Sambhar'-
A Unique Heritage for tourism destination.The State Government officials, INTACH Convenors from
Rajasthan and INTACH Chapter members would participate
in the Seminar.
Experts and community leaders will make a site visit
to get first hand experience.
